Is it easy to buy my glasses online?

Buying glasses online is easy, and you can make great savings. Here's how:

1. Arrange to have your eyes tested at any opticians. At the end of the test they will provide you with a copy of your prescription, this is a legal obligation.

2. Browse through our range of spectacle frames and choose your frames and lenses.

3. Relax whilst our professional lab technicians check your order and make your glasses

4. Receive your glasses through the post – happy in the knowledge you are receiving a high standard product.

Do I need a prescription?

Before you place an order with theglassesman.co.uk you must ensure that you have a copy of your prescription. If your prescription is less than 2 years old you can go ahead and place an order with us. If your prescription is over two years old, we advise that you obtain a new prescription from your local optician or High street optician, or supermarket opticians.

By law, your Optician must provide you with a clear, legible copy of your prescription after an eye test, and you should not be subjected to any pressure to buy from them.

What do the various terms on my prescription mean?

  1. SPH or SPHERE: component is the main correction for example SPH +2.00  SPH - 2.00
  2. CYL or CYLINDER: component means you have astigmatism i.e. your eyeball is a rugby ball shape rather than a perfect sphere. Sometimes there will be a "DS" entered in this box. Don't worry this just means there are no values and you do not have any astigmatism.
  3. AXIS: describes the direction of the cylinder component
  4. ADD or NEAR ADDITION: reading part of your prescription
  5. ADDITION INT: intermediate part of your prescription
  6. When there is no prescription present there are many different ways this can be written. 0.00/pl/Plano/infinity/number 8 on its side.
